Our ‘Essen-City’ route takes you over numerous highlights of the region and lets you experience the contrast of nature, culture and industrial history up close.
Your flight begins with a spectacular view of the idyllic Lake Baldeney, a popular excursion destination surrounded by green shoreline landscapes. Right next to it is the historic Villa Hügel, which impresses with its size and magnificent architecture. Not far away is the picturesque Baldeney Castle, another testimony to the history and culture of the Ruhr region.
The route continues via the charming Haus Scheppen, a popular meeting place for motorcyclists and water sports enthusiasts, and the Überruhr waterworks, a striking landmark of Essen's infrastructure. As soon as you reach Essen's city centre, you will enjoy the sight of numerous landmarks: the lively Kennedyplatz, the magnificent Essen Cathedral and the impressive Old Synagogue, which stand for the cultural diversity of the city.
The modern face of Essen is not neglected either - you fly over the Limbecker Platz shopping centre, which offers popular shopping opportunities, as well as over the imposing Thyssen-Krupp headquarters, which stands for the city's industrial past and present. In the neighbouring Krupp Park, the green spaces that run through the city become visible and you get an impression of the urban landscape.
The sightseeing flight continues over the impressive skyline of Essen, which combines modern architecture with historic buildings. Discover cultural highlights such as the Essen Philharmonic Hall, the avant-garde Aalto Theatre, the Stadtgarten and the renowned Folkwang Museum - here you can experience cultural diversity from the air.
A detour to Rüttenscheid lets you discover the well-known trendy neighbourhood along Rüttenscheider Straße from a new perspective, before you continue flying over the extensive Grugapark, a green oasis in the middle of the city. The Essen exhibition centre also comes into view before you catch a glimpse of the Essen city forest, which is appreciated as a haven of peace in the city.
Shortly before landing, the route takes you over the historic Krupp estate ‘Brandenbusch’ - and a final view of Villa Hügel rounds off the flying experience.
